The Ravishing Pieces Of Nature
Rajaji - Corbett - Dudhwa
Few people in the world have inspired a generation, however one of them was undisputedly Edward James ‘Jim’ Corbett. An Englishman born and bought up in India’s Uttarakhand state (then Kumaon region), Corbett is most known for his shrewd observations about conservation of Indian wildlife. Corbett established India’s first National Park, the Hailey National Park, which was renamed in his honour to what we know today as the ‘Jim Corbett National Park’. Rich in Corbett’s history, this hilly wilderness at the foothills of the Himalayas, along with the Rajaji National Park to its north west and the Dudhwa National Park to its south east forms some of the keystone jungles of Northern India.
If the Corbett National Park boasts of its mesmerising landscapes, the Rajaji National Park will spellbind you with its broadleaved deciduous forests and riverine vegetation. Add to it the immense grasslands of Dudhwa and you have a goldmine of natural beauty. The coveted Bengal tiger has one of its strongholds in this region and all these protected areas can boast to be home to the striped feline.
Apart from the tiger, these woods are home to a variety of fauna including Indian elephants, hog deer and the elusive fishing cat. While Rajaji and Corbett are home to the Himalayan black bear, the Dudhwa National Park is a refuge for the Indian Rhinoceros, where they were reintroduced in the mid-1980s. Birds are a plentiful all year around in addition to the winter migrants. A visit to this diversified wonderland is a must for every nature traveler and wildlife enthusiast.
